Polar Bear Support!

Thursday, 16 October 2008 20:54 by Tamara

I got this awesome E-mail today... Please read and support! Take action now. Here, there, and everywhere!

Tamara!

Dear Tamara,

The Bush Administration has announced that it will not grant the polar bear the full-fledged protection it desperately needs to survive. And NRDC has responded by filing suit.

Make no mistake: the White House's abandonment of the bear to the ravages of global warming and Arctic oil development is illegal.

But to win this kind of grueling legal battle, we're going to need a steady source of reliable funds. That's why I'm urging you to become an
NRDC Monthly Partner today and help us ensure the polar bear's survival.

Time is short. In its remaining days in office, the Bush Administration is racing to open as much of the polar bear's Arctic habitat to oil and gas development as possible.

But even the Bush Administration is running smack into the reality of polar bear distress. Government scientists conducting a survey in preparation for massive Arctic oil drilling reported an unusual and heartbreaking sight:

Nine polar bears were spotted swimming more than 60 miles from shore in a desperate attempt to survive. Long open-water swims put polar bears at an increased risk for drowning. And even if they do reach shore they can be so exhausted they literally don't move for days, making them even more vulnerable to starvation.

Alaska's polar bears urgently need the strongest protection our country can give them -- or they are headed for extinction by the middle of this century.

If the Bush Administration won't grant that protection, then with your help NRDC will take them to court and force them to do it.

Become an NRDC Monthly Partner now and you'll play a frontline role in saving the polar bear.

It's going to be a hard fight because Big Oil and other corporate polluters aren't going to let polar bears get in the way of their profits without pushing back. Groups like the American Petroleum Institute, the National Mining Association and other corporate interests have already begun intervening in our lawsuit in order to deny protections to the polar bear.

Your monthly pledge can help NRDC take them on and defeat them.

As a Monthly Partner, you'll be joining with thousands of people who are forging a sturdy lifeline of polar bear support with contributions of as little as $5 a month.

Help NRDC keep fighting until the White House reverses its cruel decision to abandon the polar bear. Please give the polar bear a fighting chance by becoming an NRDC Monthly Partner today.

Sincerely,
Frances
Frances Beinecke
President
Natural Resources Defense Council

P.S. With this summer's Arctic sea ice falling to the second-lowest level on record, NRDC needs
your ongoing help to make the Bush Administration obey the law and save suffering polar bears.

Take Action!

polar bear sos

Okay everyone we need to take action and tell the Bush Administration to grant the polar bear full-fledged protection as an endangered species! Please go to Polar Bear SOS and take action.

Make your voice heard and don't stop until we make a change and close the polluter loopholes. Everyone out there, if you care about the polar bears, you have to stand up for them and make things right. It only take a second of your time and that could grant the polar bears a life time. I did it and you can do it too.
